| FAQS (Frequently Asked Questions)
What are proofs - Proofs are prints authorized by the artist in addition to the limited signed and numbered edition. The total size of an art edition consists of the signed and numbered prints plus all outstanding proofs. If a set of proofs consists of more than one print, numbers are inscribed to indicate the number of the prints within the total number of the particular type of proof, (e.g., AP 5/20 means the fifth print in a set of twenty identical prints authorized as artist proofs). Proofs are generally signed by the artist as validation of the prints. What is a Gallery Proof (GP) - Gallery Proof editions are a small edition of a particular design that has hand painted color variations and are available ONLY from Authorized Gallery Dealers. What is an Artist's Proof (AP) - Print intended for the artist's personal use. It is common practice to reserve approximately ten percent of an edition as artist's proofs, although this figure can be higher. The artist's proof is sometimes referred to by its French épreuve d'artist (abbreviation E.A.). Artist's proofs can be distinguished by the abbreviation AP or E.A., commonly on the lower left of the work. What is a Limited Edition - A limited number of identical prints numbered in succession and signed and supervised by the artist. Any additional prints have been destroyed. How are your pieces created - Each piece starts off as a sketch. Once the sketch is approved I create a ruff sculpt in order to map out the proportions and block out basic shapes. Once the proportions are somewhat to my liking, I continue to add detail until the piece is ready to mold. After the piece is finished I create a waste mold and cast a prototype out of plaster or resin that I use to refine and add the finishing details to. I will then cut and seperate the statue into smaller pieces so that they can be engineered to fit back together properly once the final mold is created. Each piece is molded and the mold is used to create multiple castings that I will sand, glue, and hand paint into the finished piece. How do you price your work - My work is priced based on the fact that each piece is hand crafted by the original artist. Unlike other limited edition pieces that you may see in various galleries, my work is not reproduced overseas. I maintain my own quality control, do all of the sculpting, casting and painting, as well as shipping myself. Will all of your pieces be limited editions - I have recently discovered that in order to maintain realistic shipping times and production quality, I have to limit the amount of pieces that I create to a smaller lot size for now. Most editions from now on will be limited to about 30 - 40 pieces which will explain the higher price points that previous collectors may not have been accustomed to. |
